Guido Mine

Guido Mine  - the historic Coal Mine located in Zabrze received a mining license on October 2, 1855, and the deposits were exploited there from 1871 to 1928.

After the end of World War II, the Guido Mine became part Makoszowy mine, and since 1967, part of the mine's excavations have been allocated to the M-300 Experimental Coal Mine.

The Guido Mine was entered in the register of immovable monuments of the Śląskie Voivodeship, and some excavations were made available for sightseeing as underground tourist routes. Today the Guido Mine is part of Museum of Coal Mining in Zabrze.

The mining grant was issued to the count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck and from his name the Guido Mine took its name. Barbara was the first to be drilled in the mine, and then Concordia shafts (later called the Guido shaft), in which the first mining level was established - 80 m. Work on drilling both shafts of the Guido Mine encountered numerous difficulties.

Hard coal mining at the Guido Mine was extracted using an extract from steam engine.

Further work was related to the drilling of another shaft, which was named Eisenbahn shaft (Railway) and today it serves tourists during the descent down the so-called "Sholem".

Already in 1885, 313 thousand was extracted. tons of coal, although the Guido Mine was considered unprofitable. So Donnersmarck sold his mine to the Prussian Treasury, and then it was incorporated into the state mine "Queen Louise".

At the beginning of the 20th century, a new mine was built in the vicinity of the Guido Mine, "Delbrück", Currently called" Sośnica-Makoszowy ", where coking coal was mined. A coking plant was built nearby.

In 1904, the workings of both mines were connected.

In 1922, when Silesia was divided by the state border after the end of World War I, the Guido Mine remained on the German side.

Guido Mine

After the exploitation of coal deposits, the "Guido" Mine lost its importance. In 1928, the Guido shaft was immobilized and the Railway shaft became a downhill shaft for the crew and materials. Dewatering devices were installed at the level of 170 mines, which soon took over the drainage of three other mines: Bielszowice, Makoszowy and Guido Mine.

The Guido mine was connected with the Makoszowy mine with ventilation workings and escape routes.

Kexperimental gun M-300 and an open-air museum

In 1967, the M-300 Experimental Coal Mine was established here.

In 1982, a mining open-air museum was established in the area of the former Guido mine.

The Guido Mine is now unique on a global scale.

The open-air museum consists of corridors at levels 170 and 320 meters and a complex of surface development with technical equipment.
